Unique Chinese Ancient Residential Architectural Complex

Posted By on May 25, 2012

Family Cai’s Ancient Residential Architectural Complex was primarily established from 6th of Emperor Tongzi in Qing Dynasty (1867 A.D.) to 3rd year of Emperor Xuantong, Qing Dynasty (1911 A.D.), by Cai Qichang and his son, Cai Zishen. There exist now in the complex 16 relatively complete residences, longitudinally arranged in parallel in a rectangular plot with the area of some 3hectares (over 40mou). This plot, over 200m in from east to west and more than 100m from south to north, features approximately 16,300m2 of building area. Most of the architectures are provided with post and lintel structure and flush gable roof or round ridge roof. Stone pavement, 10m in width, is laid between every front and rear residences, and 2m fire path are equipped with between gables. The villas, most of which were designed with three loops plus five bays or two loops plus five bays, are facing the south. Since sunshine from south is kept away from entering indoors in summer and north wind is blocked off by the rear wall in winter, this orientation is optimum in Southern Fujian Area.

  2. We have an large old shack in windy Southern Ca that I have to re-roof with the cheapest possible decent roofing material that a novice can install Might Sheet Metal Roofing be best? (this may not cover a current roof due to the fact I need to take away the rotten plywood– the joists are still good and I’ll keep those. ) Where can I buy the unprocessed trash? Thx. Simply to confirm, these steel roodfsdo not need the plywood underlay, perfect? They may be set up directly on the roof joists?.
