In Family Cai’s residential complex, every structure has towering ridges and richly ornamented beams and pillars. The brick and stone embossments on entrance walls extend strong three-dimensional appeal. The mullions, engraved with figures of flowers and birds, are ingeniously, luxuriously decorated. Meanwhile, the scattered calligraphies and paintings on walls, doors and in the halls are giving distinct feelings. Among the numerous unique handwritings in seal character, official script, cursive script and regular script, there are much from the hands of celebrities in that period. The calligraphies and painting, in ink, colorful or plain, are all gorgeous; the steles, fans and mullions all have unique styles; the round, arch, diamond-shaped and rectangular doors and windows are much diversified; the wood sculptures, clay sculptures, brick carvings are well as stone carvings, all exquisite, can be found everywhere. Most of the sculptures were worked out through means of openwork, embossment or carving, enjoying varying contents, wide or ancient. Such as birds, beasts, flowers, fishes, insects, waters and mountains, etc. furthermore, Dressing Pavilion, the farthest attached reading veranda in the northeastern corner, is a two-storey building, from which one can overlook the sceneries and spontaneously admire the ancient history. In the residential complex, the refined sculptures and carvings reflect not only the mature art of sculpture in Southern Fujian intensively, but also the influence of Indian Buddhism, Islam, Culture of Southeastern Asia as well as Western architectural art on regional culture. In this way, Family Cai’s residential complex has been praised as the Grand Architectures of Southern Fujian.
