Combining Different Mediums of Tile.

Posted By on August 22, 2012

Sometimes people wonder, that they need to choose one kind of tile when taking on a decorative project. Some of the prettiest interiors combine different tiles. You can have glass tile walls and ceramic tile flooring. You can even combine different tiles on the same wall creating a contrasting pattern. Use the differences in the colors and other visual properties of tiles to your advantage.

In the same way that mixing different color tiles can create vivid patterns, the same can be done with ceramic, porcelain, glass and even metal tiles. Mix different color glass and ceramic tiles to create a contrast of colors, textures, and gloss. Or choose glass and ceramic tiles of the same color and have the color uniformity broken up by the different textile properties of the tiles. Metal tiles can be employed in the same ways.

Before making any decisions you should look at examples of tile patterns that incorporate different types of tile. Tile combinations can be a little hard to plan and execute in your design projects but they are worth it. They look great, cost about the same, and they are unique. For something simpler try combining one type of tile flooring with a different wall tile.
