How to Personalize Tile Flooring

Posted By on November 15, 2012

Tile flooring is beautiful on its own, but I know most of us will want to add a little something extra to make the flooring that much more unique and interesting. Because if you’ve seen one tile floor, you’ve seen them all. But if you follow some of this advice, your flooring doesn’t have to get lost in the crowd.  Lets go over some great tips to make those ceramic tiles really shine and better reflect your style and personality.

  • Change the direction of the tiles. Instead of laying them straight, turn them 90 degrees for a diamond shape. Also consider the cut of the tiles themselves. Not all tile flooring needs to be squares.
  • Utilize two or more different sizes. The offset in sizes will draw in the eye and offer a nice contrast. Who says everything has to be uniform to be beautiful?
  • Try using borders, patterns, and insets. An inset will break up the uniformity and borders are your chance to get creative using different styles and patterns.
  • Create texture and relief. Although a 3D effect is more typical on backsplashes and countertops, you can still achieve this on a floor. Try mixing glossy tiles with textured ones.
