Glass mosaic tile used to enhance above the water line provides an interesting border in a swimming pool. Glass tiles are more affordable for larger areas than metal or stone tiles and are resistant to damage from the sun and chemicals. Glass tiles also come in a large variety of colors to suit any decor and design strategy. Tiles can easily be installed while the pool is mostly full and will provide the pool with sparkle and an intriguing look

1.Drain the pool to below the bottom line of where the tile will be.

2. Brush the entire area that will have tile with a wire brush to remove dirt and debris.

3. Apply the leveling compound, according to the package directions, on areas that are not level, and allow to dry.

4. Apply a crack suppression membrane to the entire surface that will have tile with a trowel, or purchase the peel-and-stick sheets.

5. Set the tiles onto the table and try a few patterns to find the layout you like.

6. Apply a layer of thinset that is just thinner than the thickness of the tile with a notched trowel. Only apply what you can tile in 10 to 15 minutes.

7. Butter the backside of the tile with a thin layer of thinset, using the flat edge of the trowel. Smooth the grooves in the thinset if applying clear tiles so the grooves will not show.

8. Place the tile and tap lightly into place with a rubber mallet. Place a tile spacer and continue adding tiles until you have covered the area of thinset. Use a sponge to remove any thinset that has been displaced from setting the tiles.

9. Repeat in small sections until all the tile is set in the thinset. Allow the thinset to dry for 24 hours, then remove the tile spacers.

10. Mix small amounts of grout in a bucket to the consistency of peanut butter. Apply the grout to the tile with a grout float. Press the grout into the gaps by moving grout over the tiles in all directions.

11. Continue until all the tiles have grout.

12. Wash the tiles with a sponge and water to remove the excess grout from the tiles. Repeat until all the extra grout is gone. Change the water frequently to speed the process.

13. Allow the grout to set for 24 hours.

14. Wash the tiles with a mixture of water and a mild detergent to remove any haze left from the grout.
