How to Clean Manufactured Stone?

Posted By on June 6, 2013

Manufactured stone often is hard to distinguish from the real thing. In addition, it is frequently more color-fast than real stone, which makes cleaning it seldom a major necessity. However, your manufactured stone will last longer and be more beautiful if you clean it whenever it does develop dirt or grime buildup. Regular cleaning every two or three months will help you get the longest life out of your manufactured stone.

Instructions

  1. Mix 1 cup of mild detergent with about 4 gallons of water in the 5-gallon bucket. Do not ever use harsh cleaners on manufactured stone because they will discolor it and can actually eat away at the stone over time.
  2. Rinse the stone with the garden hose. This will loosen debris and buildup and prepare the stone for scrubbing.

3. Scrub the stones. Dip your brush into the soap mixture and start scrubbing. Focus on areas with discoloration, water marks and mud. Generally marking and staining issues are actually caused by something interfering with the surface of the manufactured stone, and they will often resolve themselves without further effort if you just get the problem substance itself off the stone. Use circular scrubbing motions and dip your brush often to clean it so that it does not start spreading mud and dirt around instead of cleaning.

4.  Hose off the stone a second time. This will remove all soap residue, which can create a gray film that will make your manufactured stone look dirty. Once you have finished rinsing off the stone, if you do not see any problem areas or stained areas you can simply let the stone air dry.
