Glass Tile Mosaic Tips

Small glass tiles are the best for mosaics. If you want to build your own mosaic here are some helpful tips.

If you’re placing glass tiles on a backsplash it’s important to keep all the tiles flat. It’s when you use shards or pieces of glass tile of different thickness that you get bumpy, uneven tiling.

If you’re worried about drawing out your mosaic, try tracing it. If you need to resize an image to better trace it, there are sizing photocopiers.

While many of us think of glass tile mosaics for floors and backsplashes, they can also be used for vases and plates and other decorative items. The best way to do that is to glue the glass tiles down and then grout them into place. Outdoor projects are harder because you have to take into account the elements, which means waterproof materials. Cement-based mortars are preferable to any sort of grout when working outdoors.

You may be enthusiastic about finding your own glass tiles or ceramic tiles, but this can be tricky, especially finding pieces that will fit evenly. For big, important projects it’s best to simply buy glass tiles so you know what you’re getting. Good luck!
