Methods to Test The Flatness of Ceramics.(2/28/2014)

Because of high temperature firing, deformation for ceramics can not be completely avoided. Even top-class products also have deformation. The national standard for deformation (edge bending degree) is: porcelain polishing brick plus or minus 0.2% (maximum deviation is 2.0 mm); other porcelain tiles is +-0.5%; color ceramic glaze is +-0.5%; Glazed pottery is + 0.5%-0.3%.

The products' tolerances in normal manufacturers are under the national standards.Dongpeng internal control standards are: polishing brick (classy article) is +-0.12%; color ceramic glaze (classy article) is plus or minus 0.25%, glazed wall brick (classy article) for + 0.3%-0.1%. The standards prescribed by the state is used by percentage, normally when we use, we must convert them into (mm) units.

Conversion method is: sides length�� deformation standard (%) x 100% = product deformation value. Here we take polishing brick 800 specifications as an example: 800 x (plus or minus 0.12%) x 100% = deformation value.

Simple field detection method for Ceramic:
1. Put more than four products on the flat sand floor according to the direction of trademark bottom and keep inflation aperture to see whether junctions among four sides are flat withthout obvious "kick" phenomenon or not.

2. Directly place guiding ruler with bigger or same width than the brick in 5 mm distance away from brick edge; with appropriate feeler, from the big value to the small value, insert into gaps between guiding ruler and brick surface; that value is deformation value.

3. Observation and measurement of flatness by putting two products face to face are not correct; eyes measurement, or use two bricks on a flat surface or for rotation is not correct. It is necessary to use ruler for detect.

4. Simple detection for ceramics deformation: two people use hands to make the edges of deformated ceramic against with each other to see if it is flat. If deformation differences between two brick are big, then it is needed to use method 1 for detect; if you want to know the product deformation value is beyond the standard or not, then it is needed to use method 1 for detect.
5. According to different types of product requirements, it is needed to reserve gap before putting. Especially for archaize brick, elegant sandstone, the natural surface product, it is needed to reserve 5-15mm crack.
